Anna Belinda The Dragon Of The People
Anna Belinda The Dragon Of The People
Introduction
This story is about a dragon who is named Anna Belinda.
The story began many years ago in a small village called Asabi high up in the mountains.
The village is surrounded by caves and almost all of the cave lead to a smaller village or heave wooded area that is all but one. This is the cave where Anna Belinda lives she is the larges and most beautiful dragon alive
This story begins in the village Elsabi Where there live a young girl named Samantha. Every day she would go for a walk by the river that followed through the Village, after she had helped her mother with the morning chores.
On One hot and sunny day while she was walking she came across a huge egg lying by the river edge. She had never seen any thing like it before. The egg was a beautiful metallic blue.
She sat down on the ground just a few inches away from the egg. She had heard stories about people who came across these nests with huge eggs. The Alders of her village would tell tales of these nests with huge eggs in them. They would say that these nests belong to dragons, but they never said what color the eggs were. All their stories end (“if you ever come across one of these nest beware because if there was a nest then there were dragons near by.”)
Samantha thought that the stories had just been made up by the Alder of the village to keep the children away from the cave that surrounds the village.
She stood up and looked around. She could not see any nest, Samantha asked herself (“If there was no nest in sight. How did the egg get here in the first place?”)
She stood up and looked around there were no signs of a nest any where as far as the eye could see…
She looks around to see if she could see any tracks. There was no track any were. She looked for any sign that the egg might have rolled there. She could see nothing.
Samantha looked around for something to poke the egg with. She did not want to get to close before she checked it out. She found a long stick sitting at the rivers edge. She picked up the stick and carefully pushed the egg. To her surprised it moved.
It made her jump.
She stood there for a few minutes staring at the egg. After a few minutes she knew that it was safe. She walked right up to the egg and sat down.
She sat there staring at the egg wondering were it had come from. She had no idea that this egg was about to change her life for ever.
She sat there staring at it wondering what she should do.
Samantha had always loved all creatures large or small. She would always do her best to help an animal if it needed it…
She new she could not just leave it there because if there was a baby dragon in the egg and if it hatched the baby dragon would need its mother. At the same time if it was true what she had heard about dragons it could be very dangerous to fine the nest. The mother dragon would problem be sitting on her eggs and the father would either be hunting or standing on guard near by. As she sat there thinking about what to do. An idea came to her.
She would look for the dragon nest. Until she found the nest were the egg came from She would keep it safe. After she found the nest she would have to come up with a plan on how to get the egg back into the nest with out the mother or father noticing her. She decides once she found the nest. She would sneak up very slowly and quietly. Then she would put the egg as close as she could get with out been seen by the baby dragons parents. That way the mother dragon would see the egg. Samantha hoped that the mother dragon would see the egg and place it into her nest.
Samantha picked up the egg and was surprised at how light it was. She carefully rolled it back and forth in her arms. As she rolled in her arms she noticed the color of the egg would change. She could not believe her eyes it was so beautiful. As she brought it up to her chest she said well eggy lets go and find your mom. That way you will be safe. Your mom’s nest should not be too hard to find, I’m sure you are not the only egg.
Samantha walked to the end of the river she could not cross the river with out a boat. The nest was no were to be seen. She decides then to start to look in the caves. As she reaches the first cave she realizes that it would be lunch soon. Samantha needed to get back to the village to help her mother with the afternoon chores.
Samantha looked at the egg and said now what do I do?
As she walked back to the village with the egg in her arms she decides to hide the egg in her family’s barn. After she did her afternoon chores she would continue her search.
When she finally got home she ran to the barn with the egg.
She found a great spot for the egg. She placed it be hind a stack of hay. She put the egg down and covered it with some hay. As she left the barn she turned around and said now eggy you stay here.
Samantha ran out of the barn and into the house. Their house was a simple home made out of logs. It had a stick roof with grass. The house only had three rooms. Her room was in the loft and her parent’s room was in the back of the house. The front room had a huge fire place were her mother would cook their meal. In front of the fire place was a small wood table with four wooden chairs around it.
Samantha’s mother handed her the wooden plate and cups off the fire place. Samantha set the table. Once she had finished she went outside to the corral were her father was train a new mule to have a blown harness on.
Samantha told her father that lunch was ready.
Her father said I will be in, in a minute. I just have to water and feed the mule.
Samantha’s heart started to race. She had to think fast.
Samantha said dad what do mules eat?
Samantha’s father looked at her (“Samantha you know what they eat. Is this one of your games?”)
Samantha replied (’ No father I just can not recall.”)
Samantha’s father said that mules eat oats, grass, wheat, and hay.
Say father how about I go get you the hay and that way it will make it a little faster for you. You will be able to eat your lunch before it is cold. You know how much mother hates when you come in and all the foods cold.
Very well Samantha you may go get the hay the wheel barrel is just over there.
Samantha heart went back to normal. She grabbed the wheel barrel and went into the barn. This way she could check on the egg to make sure it was okay.
She entered the barn and went to were she had hidden the egg. She removed the hay from the egg. Samantha picked up the egg to make sure it was okay. As she rolled the egg around in her hands she notices a small crack at the top of the egg.
Samantha ran her finger along the crack. On no Samantha yelled not realizing her father was just outside the barn door.
Her father came running in to the barn and called out to her are you okay Samantha?
Samantha eyes went huge. If her father cot her with a dragons egg he would become very upset. She put the egg down and covered it back up with the hay and peak from behind the haystack.
Samantha replied I’m fine father I just keep dropping the shovel. This hay is a lot heaver then I thought.
She had picked up the shovel and walk over to her father.
She put her head down and said I’m sorry father I tried. Her father took the shovel and laughs that okay sunshine. I’m just glad that you are okay. I can get the hay later. Come let us go eat before we both get into trouble with your mother.
He put his arm around Samantha’s shoulders and they walked back to the house.
After Samantha and her parents had finished their lunch. Samantha helped her mother to clean up the table and the dishes. She ran to the barn and went straight to be the egg was hidden. She brushed the hay of the egg. She had been very worried about the egg all through lunch.
Samantha had hoped that the crack had not gotten bigger, because if it did that would mean that it was hatching. It would give her very little time to find the nest that it belongs to.
Samantha picked up the egg and looked were the crack was. Just as she had feared the crack had gotten bigger. She figures from the size of the crack that by night fall it would fully be hatched. She would have to find the nest fast. Samantha picked up the egg and walked to the back of the barn were there was an old stall that had not been used for as long as she could remember. She opened the stall gate and walked into the stall. Once she had laid the egg down and covered it with some old straw. She left the stall and closes the gate. That way if the little dragon hatched it would not get out of the barn. If it was like the rest of the flying animals it would not be able to fly right away.
Samantha knew she had very little time to find the nest… There was no way she would be able to go to all the caves before the egg would hatch. She needed help but who would she ask?
Samantha had some friends but not one of them did she trust when it cane to a secret. No she need some one she could trust fully. As she stood there thing she decide there was only one person she truly trusted and that was her mother. She knew she always talk to her.
Samantha looked around and found her father working with the mule. This would be the perfect time to talk to her mother.
Samantha went into the house. She walked up to her mother who was sitting by the fire sowing some well worn cloths. They did not have a lot of money so they had to do what they need to keep their cloth until there was no way to fix them any more.
Mother Samantha said “I need your help with something.”
Samantha’s mother look up from her sowing she could tell by the tone of her daughters voice that what she was about to ask her father would not approve of it.
Samantha’s mother replied what is it my dear?
Samantha took her mother’s hand and said it is better if I show you. Please come with me.
Samantha brought her mother into the barn were she had placed the egg.
Samantha opens the stall gate and walked in. Her mother was right behind her.
Samantha’s mother could not believe what she was seeing. She looks at Samantha and said is that a dragon’s egg. Samantha lifts the egg and passed it to her mother. At first Samantha’s mother who was named lee, did not take it at first. She could see that Samantha was not afraid of the egg she seamed concerned. Lee put out her hands so Samantha could place the egg into her arms.
Samantha smiled up at her mother who now was holding the egg in her arm. She said I think so, but I’m not sure. What ever it is I need to find where it came from so that I can return it to the right place that way it will be safe. If you take a good look at it you can see it is starting to hatch. I do not have a lot of time left and I need your help to find out were it belongs before it hatches.
As they stood there in silence for a few minutes Samantha’s mom was remembering the day she found Samantha while she had been walking in the woods near a large dragons nest. In the nest there was peace of dragon egg sells that looked the same color as the one she held in her hand. A few feet away from the nest there were three dragons that had been killed. There were two big ones and one very small dragon. Lee picked up the human baby that was lying by the nest she could not figure out why they had killed the dragons and not taken the baby. All she new was this baby needed a mother and she had just lost her baby a few days before she had found Samantha. She took the baby home and from that day on she was Samantha’s mother. She had never told Samantha that she had found her. She was only maybe a few days old when lee had found her. Samantha had no memory of her past life.
Samantha pulled in her mother’s arm. Mother is everything all right. You’re not mad at me are you?
Lee bent down and said no honey. Why would I bee mad. So how can I help you?
I need you to help me find the nest before it hatches. I can not do it alone.
Lee smiled at Samantha and said I will go tell your dad that we are going for a wagon ride that way he will never know what we are up to and we can cover much more area then we can walking. You hitch up the horses. Make sure to put the saddle bags in the back of the wagon. We will take the egg with us. I do not think we should leave it here. The sooner we get it back to its parents the better.
Samantha went right to work they only had two horses. The big black stallion was her father and the white mare was her mother. The two horses made a great team.
Before long they were leaving the village.
Once they were out of the village Samantha’s mother said show me were you found the egg that is were we will start.
Samantha showed her mother were she had found the egg. The both got out of the wagon. They walked over to the river. They searched the edge for some sign of were the egg came from. Neither of them could see any thing that would tell them were the egg came from.
As Samantha and her mother walked back to the wagon they could see that the horses were acting up. Samantha ran the rest of the way to the wagon to see what was making the horses uneasy. Lee also so ran to see what was going on
The first thing Samantha did was walk up to the front of the wagon. She walks up very slowly just in case there was a snake by the horses’ feet. When she could see the horse feet she could see there was nothing there. Samantha decide she better take a look at the egg so she jumped up into the back of the wagon. As she started to walk over to the saddle bags that had the egg in it she heard some one call her name. She thought it was her mother so she turns to Lee and asks what mother.
Lee look up at Samantha with a puzzled look and answered I didn’t say anything.
Samantha looked at her. Mother I’m sure I heard you call my name.
As Samantha stood there looking at her mother she heard her name being called. This time she knew it was not her mother. The really weird thing was her mother acted like she did not hear anything at all.
Samantha looked at her mother and said did you hear that?
Lee look at Samantha and said hear what?
Mother some one keeps calling my name. Why can’t you hear it?
Samantha falls to her knees and started to cry. Mother have I been bewitch.
Lee jumped up into the wagon and wrapped her arms around Samantha. She spoke to Samantha in a soft gentle voice and said no my dear. You are very special and maybe you have a gift that not every one knows abound. You hear the animals talk to you. You have ever since I could remember. You just need to focus on the voice you hear to find out what animal is calling to you.
Mother how is that possible I never here our animals on the farm.
Lee took her hand and bushed Samantha’s hair away from her eyes. Then she took her dress sleeves and wiped away Samantha’s tears. From what I have seen it is only some animals you can hear not all of them.
As Samantha sat there in her mother’s arms she felt something pushing her arm. Then she heard the voice again this time it was right beside her and it was very young. The voice said I’m very sorry I did not mean to upset you please do not cry I need you.
Samantha lifted her head and turned from her mother’s arms. There right beside her sat a very small dragon. When Lee saw it she jumped back.
Samantha said are you the one who keep talking to me. The little dragon replied yes my name is Anna Belinda and you are my mother. Samantha laugh how can I be your mother I’m not a dragon. Do you know were you come from? The little dragon looks down and said no. Will you take care of me? Samantha smile yes until we find your real parents. I will be your mother until then.
