Denmark my mother and grandmothers home land
I have only been to Denmark twice in my life. We stayed in Copenhagen I was there Once when I was five and then again in June of 1995.
I went to see some of my family in Denmark. I will never forget my trip. My grandmother had bought me a ticket for my birthday. We went there for six weeks. It is a wonderful place.
A lot of the town and cities are well over 100 years old. Most of the streets you can only fit one car down. A lot of people do not drive cars unless they are going out of town. Their main transportation is bikes.
I went and saw my third and fourth cousins. They showed me all around Denmark. I saw the old churches, and a castle, and went to Tivoli. My third cousin Brian and his wife Bridget, took me to a beach house that they had rented for 4 days. There daughter Hanna my forth cousin showed me the night life in Copenhagen. She also introduced me to a few of her friends and her boyfriend Mike. My cousin Brian asked me to stay in Denmark. He said he would help me fine a place and get a job if I stayed. I thanked him and said my parents are in Canada. I would miss my family too much if I stayed in Denmark.
What I did not know is that the reason my grandmother had brought me to Denmark was to meet a husband, and meet my family. She was trying to get me away from my boyfriend in Canada because, he was abusing me. She had told her cousins' her plan and they were trying to help her.
Five months after I returned to Canada I left my boyfriend and went into a shelter. In 1999 I got married to a wonderful man who would not hurt a fly. I still talk to my family in Denmark and I never told them that I knew what they were up to. They do however know that I have a wonderful husband who treats me like a queen. I even told them that we would like to start our own worm farm. Brian asked if everything works out that we should call him, he might be able to help us out with our business. He has his own cobble stone business, so he knows how businesses work. I hope to bring my husband and daughter to Denmark some day. That is my dream.
